Employment Opportunities

The New York City Montessori Charter School opened its doors in the South Bronx in September 2011. It is the first and only Montessori public school in New York City.

We’re always looking for idealistic, enthusiastic teachers to join our team and work in a school that brings the benefits of a Montessori education to children from families living in the poorest urban school district in the country.

We currently offer pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade and 5th–grades. Each classroom has a lead teacher and an associate teacher. We’re seeking teachers with the following qualifications:

Lead Teachers:
  • State certification
  • Master’s Degree, or higher, in Education
  • Montessori training and/or Certification or a willingness to pursue Montessori training
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience
  • Spanish speaking would be an advantage
  • We are especially interested in teachers with Special Education and/or ELL certification
Associate Teachers:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s Degree close to completion and a willingness to pursue Montessori training
  • Montessori training and/or certification and a willingness to pursue Masters degree and state certification
  • Spanish speaking would be an advantage
  • Some experience preferred

The salaries we offer are highly competitive with those of the NYC Department of Education and of other charter schools, and are based on experience and qualifications. All teachers receive a comprehensive benefits package.

If you’re interested in joining our Montessori family, please send us your resumé and a cover letter explaining how your personal aims and educational philosophy could contribute to the school. Send them to: info@nycmcs.org, or call us at 347-226-9094 for more information.
