Educational Programs

Although the Montessori approach doesn’t utilize a typical “curriculum” as defined by a conventional public school system, it is absolutely aligned with the National and New York State Common Core Standards to ensure compliance with essential testing and other requirements. Beyond that adherence, the educational experience is unlike any other.

Montessori Approach

  • Is based on the principles and techniques developed by Dr. Maria Montessori
  • Uses a child’s natural motivation to learn – and stimulates that motivation
  • Engages children with seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching
  • Understands that movement can greatly enhance thinking and learning
  • Concentrates on the whole child – physical, social, emotional, cognitive
  • Respects each child’s individual differences with tailored instruction
  • Encourages freedom to make personal choices
  • Firmly believes that no child is unteachable

Wit and Wisdom

Wit & Wisdom is a comprehensive Grades K–8 English language arts curriculum developed by and for teachers. Each Wit & Wisdom module centers on the study of rich and engaging texts, curated to build student knowledge of important ideas in the liberal arts and the sciences. The approach is integrated and text-based: daily reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary study is based on—and draws on evidence from—exceptional texts.

The Wit & Wisdom approach helps teachers celebrate the joy of reading and writing with students, while also supporting all learners to tackle the rigor that the standards demand. By reading books they love and engaging meaningfully in their learning, students develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful readers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators who love to learn and can succeed in college and careers.

Eureka Math

Eureka Math—originally EngageNY Math—was created with the intention of creating a truly new curriculum. One that was intelligently designed to teach math as a coherent body of knowledge that follows the proper learning progressions required for true math fluency, and not just a set of skills. Created as a curriculum that would instill deep, conceptual understanding that students could build on as high as they wanted to while also allowing them to find the joy in the subject. A curated team of educators submitted those plans to the New York State Education Department and won the contract to create every grade of what is now known as Eureka Math.

Eureka’s goal is to help all students become fluent in mathematics. Fluency goes beyond just knowing how a particular process can be used to solve a problem. It also requires understanding why that process works. With Eureka Math, students learn to think, strategize and solve problems… not just get answers.

Eureka Math accomplishes even more. Its intentional knowledge building increases equity in the classroom and supports student achievement and teacher practice.
